On March 5, after the topics of “energy” and “nutrition”, we will focus on the third turnaround, namely the topic of “inequality” (🔗 to event site). We kindly ask to 🔗Register for the Event.

Since summer 2023, we at the Club of Rome – Austrian Chapter have been working on an Austria-wide campaign to implement a positive vision of the necessary transformation or, as written in the “Earth4All” report, a “Giant Leap” in Austria.

This reversal of inequality is based on three fundamental levers that enable continuous development towards a new economic paradigm:

  1. Stronger progressive taxation for individuals and large corporations and closing international loopholes are essential to tackle destabilizing inequality and excessive carbon and biosphere consumption.
  2. Empower workers – Governments should legislate to strengthen the rights of workers and trade unions. In a time of great change, workers need both protection and the opportunity to develop new skills.
  3. Governments should introduce citizens’ funds to give all citizens their fair share of national wealth and the global commons in the form of a universal basic dividend.

Event on March 5th

We will discuss the opportunities and possibilities of such a “turnaround” at a public event in cooperation with the University of Salzburg, the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, the Mozarteum University and the UniNEtZ project on March 5, 2024 at the University of Salzburg.

For three keynotes we were able to win Club of Rome member Prof. Kate Pickett (University of York, online), Martin Schenk (social expert and Deputy Director of Diakonie Austria) and Prof. Dr. Andreas Koch (Paris Lodron University Salzburg).

This will be immediately followed by a panel discussion moderated by Daniela Molzbichler with social policy actors from Salzburg and the question “How can we achieve a turnaround for less inequality in order to enable needs-oriented, fair distribution for the benefit of all?”.

Workshop on March 6th

The following day, a full-day workshop with participants from science, business, politics and civil society will also take place in Salzburg on March 6, 2024 to share and discuss their views and knowledge with us.

The aim is to develop a common vision for 2050 and pathways to achieve this vision, based on the international Earth4All project. It is essential to jointly understand dependencies, synergies, conflicting goals and responsibilities and to work together to remove the stumbling blocks that stakeholders like to put in each other’s way.
The workshop will be led by Nathalie Spittler and Daniel Körner from the Center for Global Change and Sustainability/BOKU Vienna & Club of Rome – Austrian Chapter.

Anyone interested in this workshop is welcome to contact us.
