Bucharest: Fostering and Building Human Capital for Sustainable Knowledge Societies in South Eastern Europe

March 6-7: The aim of the conference is to emphasize the role of human capital for sustainable knowledge economies and societies development in the region.

The conference will convene about 200 participants representing European institutions and international organisations and donors, RCC, decision-makers from Ministries of Education, Science and Research, Labour and Social Affairs, non-governmental organisations active in the field of human capital building, local public authorities, education experts, researchers, students and representatives from the media.

It is organized by the Task Force "Fostering and Building Human Capital within the framework of the South Eastern European Regional Coordination Process" and supported by the Romanian Academy, the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Youth, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research, the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, KulturKontakt Austria, the European Support Centre of the Club of Rome and the Romanian National Centre for TVET Development.

Brussels: ICT for a Global Sustainable Future

Roland Burger opens the Feedback Session

Among the topics of the conference in January 2009 were:
  • ICT for climate change reduction/management
  • ICT for education and life long learning
  • addressing the Digital Divide
The event was organized by the FP7 Paradiso project, in cooperation with the Italian Chapter (Roland Burger) and supported by the European Support Centre of the Club of Rome.

Among the speakers were Hans Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament, Jakob von Uexküll, Anders Wijkman, MEP, and Vice President of the Club of Rome, CoR Member Sergej Kapitza, and many more experts on the subjects.

The speeches and a webcast are available on the website of the Paradiso Project.

Europe After Lisbon - Intertwining Sustainability and Competitiveness

Ljubljana / Vienna: The publication summarizes an event organized in cooperation with the Slovenian EU Presidency. Among the topics were European competitiveness by environmental technologies, competitiveness and social capital, ageing of the population and innovation capacity, and the relations between education and competitiveness.

The publication is available for download. Hard copies can be ordered free of charge from the European Support Centre in Vienna.
