Introduction
The "European Network for the Study of Globalisation" is dedicated to interdisciplinary studies of globalisation.
This phenomenon affects us all, whether we live in one of the megacities of the planet, or in smaller cities.
But in spite of its omnipresence, globalisation is only partly understood and the absence of proper management of
the phenomenon results among others from the lack of understanding and the lack of adequate theories.
The member of the network are aware of this lack and they have decided to assess existing theories and work
on new concepts in order to help transforming globalisation from a phenomenon that "just happens",
to one that is actively managed and which has a human face.
The "European Network for the Study of Globalisation" has been established in 2007 and it is
hosted by the Zentrum für Interkulturelle Studien in Fürstenfeld.
The research is based upon empirical studies and is primarily oriented toward the development of theories.
These theories will aid in the exploration and refinement of the understanding of the multifaceted phenomenon
called globalisation that has come to define the contemporary world system.
Innovation
The group analyses and criticises existent theories of Globalisation, builds upon their strengths
and transgresses their weaknesses. Due to this project's interdisciplinary, the work will be qualitatively
distinct from the continuation or extension of this field within mono-disciplinary contexts.
This website provides information about the Annual Meetings of the network, about
the organisation, the members and the results of work.
