Looking for Identities in Europe
About the Statement
Globalization and localization are cited among the main driving forces of today’s reality.
The same tendencies apply to Europe and its citizens: - on the one hand, despite present Euroscepticism
there is certainly a strengthening European community or at least a „European-awarness”;
- while on the
other hand we can observe the growing importance of regions and local communities.
Decision-making and
other competencies are also sliding to the supranational as well as to the subnational level, which
posses critical questions concerning decision-making processes, democracy and citizens’ identity.
The statement tackles these challenges Europe faces today.
