About the Statement
The lenghtening of the life cycle is a today a decisive element in the economic, social and political sustainability of the modern world.
It is a global issue, already clearly visible in the economically advanced countries and extending within the next few decades
to the rest of the world : according the the UN, in the year 2025, 70% of the world population over 60
years of age will live in developint countries. In 2050, there will be 2 billions people over 60 on this planet. With a possible and probable life expectancy at this age of 20 years in the average.
This DOES NOT mean that the world is ageing : people at 60 today compare with people at 40 about a century ago.
The WHO defines in a study middle age as between 45 and 59, mature between 60 and 75, old between 75 and 90, and great old those over 90.
In fact we life in a counter ageing society.
This issue is clearly represents a fundamental, unique, new revolution on which depends the sustainable development of all
the human population. Strangely enough this phenomenon is very superficially acknowledged, as if it did not exist.
Like when in 1973, the diminishing rate of economic growth in the "advanced" countries was not recognized as a very
important issue and possibility.....and still !!!
Sure, the environment and the energy crisis are also important issues: they are even fashionable and thousands of
organizations, official and private, have "adopted" them as a key priority. Nobody has yet really concentrated
adequately on the demographic revolution , which is impinging upon us in quantifiable terms (all those who will be
sixty in 60 years time are already born of course).
