ACCESS FROM THE AIRPORT TO HOTELS AND VICE VERSA

Barajas airport is located 13 km to the north-west of the capital on the A-2 national motorway that connects Madrid with Barcelona.

There are several transportation options between Barajas Airport and Madrid: metro, bus, taxi or car

HOW TO REACH MADRID BY METRO

If your flight arrives at TERMINAL 4

You can take the Metro located on the first floor of Terminal 4. The metro line is Line 8 and once you arrive at Nuevos Ministerios station you can use the route interchanger to pick up connections to 50 metro stations through lines 6 (circular), 8 (Nuevos Ministerio-Barajas) and 10 (Hospital del Norte-Puerta del Sur) enabling you to reach any part of Madrid.

To reach the Intercontinental Hotel on Paseo de la Castellana and the NH Hotel on calle Zurbano you have to take line 10 from Nuevos Ministerios Station towards Puerta del Sur and get off at the first station (Gregorio Marañón) where you will find the hotels. There is a plan of the area in the Main days, accommodation and access menu.

It takes a little more than 25 minutes to reach T4 of the airport from Nuevos Ministerios. Any Metro ticket is valid for T2, but there is a surcharge of approximately 1 euro for T4, which is payable on arrival at the station.

FARES TO/FROM THE AIRPORT

There is a Special Service fare for the T-1 T-2 T-3 Airport stations and T-4. Travellers that have the Abono Transportes (Multi-ticket) and Abono Turístico (Tourist ticket) do not have to pay this special fare.

Single Metro+Supplement Ticket. €2
This allows arrival and departure on the routes between any MetroMadrid station, corresponding to the Zone A Fares area and the T-1 T-2 T-3 Airport stations and T-4.

Combined+Supplement Single Ticket – €2.75
This allows arrival and departure on the routes between any station of MetroMadrid, MetroSur, MetroNorte, MetroEste, TFM, Metro Ligero Oeste and the T-1 T-2 T-3 Airport stations and T-4

Airport Supplement Ticket €1
This is required to arrive at and depart from the T-1 T-2 T-3 Airport stations and T-4 for travellers that have a ticket that is valid for the geographic boundary of MetroMadrid (Sencillo MetroMadrid (single trip), 10 viajes Metrobús (10 trips) and Sencillo Combinado (Single Combined)).

You can purchase these tickets at:
  • The ticket offices at any station of the Metro network (MetroMadrid, MetroSur, MetroNorte, MetroEste, TFM and Metro Ligero Oeste).
  • Automatic machines located at the Metro network stations, and at the arrival and departure toll barrier in the T-1 T-2 T-3 Airport stations and T-4.

If your flight arrives at TERMINAL 1, TERMINAL 2 OR TERMINAL 3

You can pick up the Metro in Terminal 2 - so if your flight arrives at Terminal 1 or 3 you must first go to Terminal 2. At T2, access to the Metro is via the connecting passageway with P2 parking, in the middle of the terminal building. Line 8: Nuevos Ministerios-Barajas. Once you arrive at Nuevos Ministerios station you can use the route interchanger to pick up connections to 50 metro stations through lines 6 (circular), 8 (Nuevos Ministerio-Barajas) and 10 (Hospital del Norte-Puerta del Sur) enabling you to reach any part of Madrid.

If your flight arrives at TERMINAL 4:

ARRIVING BY TAXI

Taxis from the airport to the centre of Madrid cost around €25.

To take a taxi:
Go to the corresponding taxi rank, ignore anyone that offers their services inside the terminal building and make sure that the taxi driver puts the meter on before setting off. The normal fare from the airport to the centre of Madrid is around €20.
