Brussels: European Water Stewardship Launch
November 24: The EWS provides a platform for representatives from civil society, business,
agriculture and the European institutions.
There was discussion and identification of common opportunities or challenges in order
to take concrete steps towards sustainable water management.
The event was organized by the European Water Partnership (EWP). Launch
partner was the Club of Rome EU Chapter.

Brussels: Aurelio Peccei Lecture with Dennis Meadows
November 21st-23rd: The EU Chapter organized a number of events with Dennis Meadows:
- On November 21st, the 80th Aurelio Peccei Lecture was held with the title "Learning to Grow Within Limits" and honorary membership of the EU Chapter was conferred upon Dennis Meadows by HRH Prince Philip of Belgium. For further info, please visit the

On November 22nd, there was a working session at the EU Parliament with MEPs and experts, and at 8.00 p.m., a public lecture took place at the BOZAR. The invitation is available in French and Dutch.

Brussels: General Assembly of the Club of Rome EU Chapter
May 26: The Annual General Meeting of the CoR-EU, on 26 May, elected Friedrich Barth (born in Heidelberg 1962) to the Board of Directors. Friedrich is Senior Advisor Environment, Climate and Energy at UNDP representation in Brussels and Vice-Chair of the European Water Partnership (EWP). He has 20 years of professional experience in environmental affairs, working with the German Environment Ministry, the European Commission, the Institute for Organisational Communication (IFOK), the German Development Cooperation Government Agency and the United Nations.

Günter Burghardt |
The AGM also confirmed the mandate of Dr. Günter Burghardt, who was co-opted to the Board in December 2010. In March 2011 he was elected Vice-President of the Board by his peers. Günter served as EU Ambassador to the United States from 2000 to 2004 after a 30-year-long career at the European Commission. He was a close aide to former EC President Jacques Delors, as Deputy Chief of Staff, Diplomatic Advisor and Political Director. He currently is Senior Counsel at the law firm Mayer Brown International, Brussels, and teaches as a guest professor at the College of Europe (Bruges) and Law faculty of the Ghent University.

Copenhagen: EU-Chapter Organizes Event
December 10: Plan B – Accelerating International Cooperation
for Crash Programs to Save the Earth was the title of the event. The Club of Rome EU-Chapter (Brussels),
EWI and IESP were the organizers. The event presented a wide number of innovative proposals, based on a recently published book,
which was distributed to all participants. The issues of governance, radical technical change,
capacity building and networking were covered.
Among the speakers, there were Raoul Weiler, Valentino Piana and Maj Munch Andersen.
The EU-Chapter is also publishing a statement for the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference 2009.

has been drafted by Guido-Henry de Couvreur. A short version is available for
download.
