Globalisation has a significant impact on the
health of the younger generation. The
mechanisms are however mostly indirect and
therefore not sufficiently discussed. The
conference, intends to increase
awareness for these mechanisms and to
initiate a scientific discussion.
The present global economic crisis has a special impact on the younger generation. When employers reduce hiring new staff, those generations which are new on the labour market are strongly affected. There is the risk of a "lost generation" among which a large number of individuals will never manage to get into regular professional employment. But also the children and juveniles in families in which parents now lose their jobs are affected. They suffer from increasing frustration in their surroundings. As a subtopic, the session will also include the issue of drug abuse.
Under globalisation young people move internationally, many of them are young immigrants. This raises the question of social bonds in globalized societies. While the European Union promotes the establishment of a European labour market and mobility of the workforce, little attention is given to the health impact of modern nomadic life. Internet and VoIP phone can help to maintain existing contacts, but they cannot replace the social bonding of local communities. How are these issues reflected in health cultures and philosophies?
