Energy is the key challenge for global sustainable development. Energy demand of the industrialised countries has
been largely satisfied by fossil fuels for more than a century.
Now we find ourselves beyond the limits which the planets's ecosystems set.
Carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere has increased to a level which created a significant greenhouse effect.
In order to save the climate, drastic changes are necessary. The industrialized countries
have to shift their energy supply from fossil fuels to renewable resources and the emerging
economies have to take care not to repeat and multiply the mistakes of the industrialized countries.
At the same time as limits are reached in the real economy, humankind enters virtual spaces. A large network of
IT infrastructure covers the whole planet. How will this network and the virtual
spaces be related to energy consumption and sustainable development?
The workshop addresses these questions in an open space arrangement and invites all participants to make announced or spontaneous contributions. Please contact the organizers for details.
