International conferences cause CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions primarily due to travelling, energy usage, overnight stays and paper use. The carbon footprint for the Global Assembly 2009 was measured in cooperation with Climate Neutral Group. The organising committee has reduced the emissions where possible and all unavoidable emissions were offset. To offset the unavoidable emissions, investments were made in projects that avoid CO2 emissions and combat climate change. As a result the Club of Rome Global Assembly 2009 was not only about sustainability but was also a climate neutral event.
